Smart Power Systems

(Master Degree Program)

course overview

The study programme “Smart Power Systems” has been designed as a united and optimised professional master programme that is open both to graduates of the professional bachelor programme and graduates of the second-level higher professional study programme. The master programme is aimed at meeting the requirements of electric power systems and networks as well as the power utilities sector of the labour market in the Republic of Latvia and abroad with the necessary specialists.

 

The graduate of the programme will be able to identify the needs of the power sector and to apply smart technologies for economical and efficient use of electric power, integrating the knowledge gained in the study process within the field of modern-day electric power systems.

 

To prepare a new generation of graduates in the field of electric power networks and systems, the record-keeping and monitoring for their modes as well as in the field of stability and reliability, actively introducing smart technologies, that is to say:

  • optimal control technologies applicable to the energy market as well as to energy production, transmission, distribution, consumption and energy saving;
  • expertise in energy demand and saving, effective energy use methods in construction, industry, the primary sector and the transport sector;
  • development and integration of various control systems and energy efficiency models.

Entry Requirements

1. Secondary (High) School Graduation Certificate and Transcript with good results, particularly in mathematics and/or physics. Education documents must be accompanied by English translations of all certificates and transcripts along with approval of the documents authenticity;

 

2. If English is not your native language, all international students are required to provide a proof of English language knowledge. Preferably you should submit one of the following certificates with a minimum scores of:

If none of the above applies, but your studies at secondary school were in English Language, provide a confirmation letter from your school, unless it states on your secondary school certificate that medium of instructions were in English Language. In case of any doubts, RTU reserves the rights to ask for an official language certificate as listed above.

3. Students applying for master programmes will be asked to record a video interview.
