The RTU is the only higher education institution in Latvia preparing highly qualified specialists in the railway sector. The study programme “Railway Engineering” is unique and provides a theoretical and practical basis that will allow graduates to work in railway transport companies, organisations, as well as research or educational institutions. The study programme includes study courses of general education, theoretical sector training, professional specialisation of the sector, free choice and humanitarian/social subjects, foreign languages. Practice is one of the most important components of the vocational study programme.

 

The aim of the study programme is to provide vocational higher education in the railway engineering sector, which allows the work of railway undertakings and organisations, as well as research and educational establishments carrying out efficient technological, electrical and electronic systems for rail transport, and the development and maintenance of processes related to the technical, organisational and management of freight and passenger transport provision, as well as preparation of students for further studies at the master’s level.

Study progression

Graduates can continue their studies in the professional master’s degree programme “Railway Engineering,” or in any other RTU MTAF Master’s degree programme, as well as any other university master’s level study programmes and vocational study programmes intended for studies after obtaining a bachelor’s degree.

Entry Requirements

1. Secondary (High) School Graduation Certificate and Transcript with good results, particularly in mathematics and/or physics. Education documents must be accompanied by English translations of all certificates and transcripts along with approval of the documents authenticity;

 

2. If English is not your native language, all international students are required to provide a proof of English language knowledge. Preferably you should submit one of the following certificates with a minimum scores of:

If none of the above applies, but your studies at secondary school were in English Language, provide a confirmation letter from your school, unless it states on your secondary school certificate that medium of instructions were in English Language. In case of any doubts, RTU reserves the rights to ask for an official language certificate as listed above.

3. Students applying for Bachelor programmes will be asked to record a video interview.

 

4. Students will be asked to take online entrance examination in Mathematics (except for students applying to Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management and Faculty of E-Learning Technologies and Humanities).
