Chemistry and Chemical Technology

course overview
The study programme “Chemistry and Chemical Technology” is unique in Latvia. The study programme trains specialists in chemistry and chemical technology intending to work in manufacturing and trade companies, quality control and research laboratories, scientific institutions dealing with various chemicals, biotechnology products and materials, e.g.: biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, construction materials, wood processing products, polymer and composite materials, textiles.
The curriculum foresees to acquire general knowledge about the management and sustainability of chemical production processes, quality control and material circulation, comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the chosen specialization. The study programme provides an opportunity (choice of the student) to specialize in one of the directions:
- Production technology and environmental aspects,
- Chemistry and technology of polymer materials,
- Chemistry and technology of biologically active compounds,
- Chemistry and technology of biomaterials,
- Chemistry and technology of inorganic materials,
- and Sustainable chemistry.
It is also possible to develop interdisciplinary knowledge by choosing study courses from several specializations. Along with the theoretical knowledge, the students will also acquire practical skills by completing a practice (working in a company or scientific institute) and Master Thesis, which is based on experimental work. The graduates will be prepared for both working life and further doctoral studies.

Entry Requirements
1. Secondary (High) School Graduation Certificate and Transcript with good results, particularly in mathematics and/or physics. Education documents must be accompanied by English translations of all certificates and transcripts along with approval of the documents authenticity;
2. If English is not your native language, all international students are required to provide a proof of English language knowledge. Preferably you should submit one of the following certificates with a minimum scores of:
If none of the above applies, but your studies at secondary school were in English Language, provide a confirmation letter from your school, unless it states on your secondary school certificate that medium of instructions were in English Language. In case of any doubts, RTU reserves the rights to ask for an official language certificate as listed above.
3. Students applying for master programmes will be asked to record a video interview.
